Awake America, Dr Robert White, A Nation Under Seige,
Converted at age fourteen, Robert White grew up in the church. Because the church was small, he held all positions at various times. This local church activity proved to be valuable experience in the ministry.
Feeling God’s call to preach, he began his ministry as a teenage evangelist. The desire to be all he could be for God inspired him to attend Lee College (now Lee University). With little money, he left Lee without graduating and accepted a position with his denomination as Louisiana State Youth and Christian Education Director, then the same position for the state of Texas.
Turning to pastoral ministry, he accepted pastorates in Mississippi and Texas. In 1964, at only the age of 29, the leadership of his denomination appointed him State Overseer (Administrative Bishop) to Montana/Wyoming, where he remained for two terms; then to Arizona for two terms and West Virginia for one term. During this period, he earned an undergraduate degree from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana; a Masters degree at Arizona State University; and a Doctorate of Ministry at Hamma School of Theology (Trinity University).
Dr. White’s focus on education led to his appointment as his denominations first Director of General Education. But, after only two years, his vision for world evangelism led to his appointment as Director of World Missions. For the many years following, Dr. White fulfilled many roles within the church, including President of the denomination’s seminary, State Overseer of Alabama (one of the largest memberships within the church), and ten years as a member of the five-member General Executive Committee (the last two of those years as the General Overseer, or Presiding Bishop, the highest executive position in the church). He also served on the Church’s Executive Council for sixteen years. He currently serves as International Evangelist.
Dr. White’s work and influence have extended beyond his denomination. He served several years on the Administrative Board of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), on the Higher Education Commission, and on the NAE’s Nominating Committee. He has traveled in approximately 100 countries and preached campmeetings, seminars, conventions, and special services in nearly 70 countries, plus nearly every state in the United States.
One accomplishment Robert White considers among his greatest was convincing Kathryn Shires to marry him. Heeding the Holy Spirit’s direction, he strongly believes their union was and remains to this day ordained of God. Robert and Kathryn have two children, Vardaman and Alisa, and three grandchildren, Bobby, Christopher, and John Michael. Dr. White has always valued a strong family, providing wisdom, spiritual guidance, and earnest prayers for his children and grandchildren.
Above all, he loved the Lord at the age of fourteen. In the years following that love has never waivered. It has only increased and grows stronger every day.
